The Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Deesa was established on 22nd February, 1976 in the 5th Five years plan of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research, New Delhi. The activities of this KVK are focused on Banaskantha district of Gujarat State. KVK is located 1.00 km away from Deesa city, 5 km away from railway station, Deesa and 170 km away from Nearly airport, Ahmedabad. It is also located 25 km away from Sardarkrushinagar main Campus of S. D. Agricultural University. It is on the Palanpur- Kandla national highway at 27 km away from Palanpur district head quarter. Deesa is situated at 24014’ N latitude and 72012’ E longitude with an altitude of 136.4 meter above the mean sea level.
Banaskantha district falls under the North agro climatic zone which is arid and semi arid. The average rainfall is 550 mm. and the maximum temperature is 450c and minimum temperature is 20c. The soil of this district is ranging from sandy, loamy sand and sandy loam.

To cater the demand driven information and services needs of the farming community of Banaskantha district by qualified professionals.
To organise short and long term vocational training programmes through " Learning by doing " for economical poor farmers, Rural youth and Farm women for their self employment.
To conduct front - line demonstrations on different oil seed and pulse crops and to disseminate the production technologies among the farmers and to collect the feed back from the farmers.
To conduct "On farm testing" for identifying technologies in terms of location specific sustainable land use systems.
To organise training to update the extension personnel with emerging advances in agricultural research on regular basis.
To preparation and distribute the printed literatures for “Package of Practices of different Crops” to the farmers.
E-Linkage facilities :
This KVK is selected for e-linkage by I.C.A.R. in 2009. All infrastructure facilities are developed through Ernet at Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Deesa. present this KVK is connected with kvk_hub at New Delhi and with other 199 KVKs of the country. These facilities help the KVK to report online, to remain in touch with kvk_hub, other KVKs for sharing knowledge and experiences, and to provide latest knowledge to the farmers.
Farmer portal services :
This centre disseminate the farm advisory services to the farmers during different crop period and stage to the farmers of the districts. Information includes package of practices for different field crop and fruits and vegetable grown in the district. More than one thousand farmers are given the advisory at a time.
Farmer portal services :
The KVK has a farmers’ hostel that can accommodate more than 40 farmers at a time. The facilities are also available to outside farmers who visits during study tours and exposure visits. In this building there is a training class room and kitchen attached. So, farmers are availing training as well as residence facilities at same place. Training class is equipped with AV facilities.
Demonstration Farm :
Krishi Vigyan Kendra possesses total 22.89 acres of land. Out of total area, 14.32 ha. area is under cultivation of crops relevant to the region. The main purpose of the farm is to demonstrate the latest agricultural practices. It also acts as a tool to do applied research in agricultural & undertakes trials before their transfer to farmers. After careful planning and soil analysis, the farm was divided into three major blocks of Horticulture, Agronomy & nursery unit. This was followed by planting mother plants of horticulture crops such as mango, sapota, anola, pomegranate, lemon and ber etc. that are mainly grown in the district. Similarly, agronomical crops grown are Bajara, pulses, castor, groundnut, sesame, mustard and cumin. Now the entire farm is operated on drip irrigation system. Separate bore well for irrigation purpose has been prepared recently. Breeder foundation seed produced in the farm. It produces breeder seed as per allotment from the Research scientist of S.D.A.U., Sardarkrishinagar and sold to seed producers as directed by the scientist. It also produces foundation seed of various crops which is sold further to seed producing farmers for production of certified seeds. KVK also produces truthful seeds which are sold to the farmers.
Net House :
The Krishi Vigyan Kendra is having green net house for vegetables seedlings, Saplings of brinjal, tomato, chilli, papaya and lemon. Seedlings and saplings are sold to the farmers.
Soil & Water Testing Laboratory :
The KVK Deesa has established soil and water testing laboratory in the year 2005-06. The laboratory is equipped with PH meter, EC meter, rotary shaking machine, spectrophotometer, iron chromatography to ensures accuracy & efficiency.
Vermi Compost Unit :
Vermi compost Demonstration units have been established at KVK instructional farm. Farmers and farm women who participate in various training programmes at this centre are exposed to technology of preparing vermi compost. Farm and animal waste is utilized for preparing NADEP compost.
Orchard Unit :
KVK established a mother nursery for ber, anola, lime, mango, pomegranate on its instructional farm. This unit is helpful in providing training & technical guidance in propagation of various fruit crops to the farming community. Farmers are also trained how to establish new orchard and to take care of present orchard.
Training Programmes :
Training programmes for the practicing farmers, farm women, rural youth and extension functionaries are organized by the KVKs as a regular activity; round the year these trainings are conducted in the KVK campus as well as in the villages as per the convenience of the target group and the nature of the training programme. The duration of trainings vary from one day to two months, depending on the complexity of the subject and the need of the target group. The trainings are mostly conducted on the principle of ‘do it yourself’ so as to make them interactive in nature and help in transfer of technology and skill in an effective manner. KVK also conduct training for Extension functionaries of Line department, NGOs and cooperative sector. Several vocational trainng programme motor rewinding for rural youth and sewing for women are also conducted.
Demonstrations & Field Trials :
Field trials of the high yielding varieties were conducted on instructional farm of KVK to screen the best varieties from among the seeds of different varieties supplied by S. D. Agricultural University. Field days are also organized on KVK farm as well as on demonstration plots at farmers' field. This has created awareness amongst farmers about the use of high yielding varieties of groundnut, pulses castor cumin, bajara, vegetables chilli, okara, potato instead of local one. With the result of these approaches, the technologies were transferred to the farmers’ fields in the different villages of the district.
Soil & Water Testing :
This laboratory analyses soil and water samples of farmers of Banaskantha districts to provide soil health card under soil health card project of Government of Gujarat. Every soil sample is analyzed for eight parameters such as pH, electric conductivity. Organic carbon, available nitrogen, available phosphorus, available potassium, Exchangeable sodium, calcium & magnesium content. Based on the analysis the experts provide the recommendations with regards to nutrient management & reclamation in case of problematic soils. Thus soil health card are also prepared as per the soft ware developed by Anand Agricultural University, Anand.
Seedlings/ Graft Production :
In KVK farm under horticulture development programmes Seedlings of vegetables like chilli, tomato, brinjal, cauliflower are prepared round the year and given to the farmers at reasonable rates to popularise vegetable cultivation especially among tribal farmers.KVK also provide seed packets of vegetables to the tribal farmers for back yard vegetable growing.
The farmers are also provided the saplings of papaya and lemon.
The farmers of tribal area are trained for budding ber, anola and soft wood grafting in mango. The KVK provide mother twigs for mango grafting and budding in ber and anola
Advisory services :
Field visit: KVK scientist visits the farmers field and guide him according to the nature of the problem. Farmers also come to KVK, for information or with the plants for diagnosis of the problems. Farmers are also given technical advice on mobile telephone as asked by the farmers. KVK also arranges the exposure visit of progressive farmers’ field while training. KVK scientists participate in a campaign of agricultural technology awareness programme every year in month of May and June known as KRUSHI MAHOSTAV programme of Govt of Gujarat Since 2005.
Other Extension Activities :
The Krishi Vigyan Kendra also conducts several other extension activities such as study trips. Kisan meals, Field days, kisan gosti, method demonstration, night meeting ,radio/TV talk Farmers’ field school, etc
