Maize is considered as a promising option for diversifying agriculture in India. It now ranks as the third most important food grain crop in India. Under the climate change maize has become more remunerative than other crops. In India maize is grown in a wide range of environments . In Gujarat maize is grown in more than 4 lakh hectare of area with total production of more than 6 lakh MT. In Northern part of Gujarat maize is mostly grown in Aravalli, Sabarkantha, Banaskantha and Patan and Mehsana districts. Maize Research Station, Bhiloda was established in 2008 with focus on maize improvement.

Bhiloda is a tehsil place of Aravalli district. It is 50 km from district head quarter Modasa. It is well surrounded by small hills of Arravali mount. The latitude and longitude of the station are 230-45’-52’’ and 730-14’-19’’ respectively. It is 204 m above Mean sea level. The nearest railway station and Airport is Himmatnagar and Ahmedabad respectively. Station is well connected with road (National Highway No 8), 16 Km away from famous and heritage temple Shamlaji.
